Shanghai Automobile and Motor Sports Association (SAMSA), which used to be Shanghai Motor Sports Association, were renamed in March, 1997, in order to adapt to the development of automobile and motor sports in Shanghai. As the member of Federation of Automobile Sports of The People’s Republic of China (FASC), Chinese Motor Sports Association (CMSA) and Shanghai Sports Federation, SAMSA brings 34 group members as well as 24,000 individual members. The chairman of SAMSA is Mr. Zhao Yinghua, the deputy director of Shanghai Administration of Sport and the vice-chairman of Shanghai Sports Federation.
The tenet of SAMSA is: adhering to the Four Cardinal Principles; abiding by Chinese laws and regulations; working for material progress and at the same time for socialist cultural and ethical progress; dedicated to providing a platform for all automobile and motor sports fans to share their experience and organizing all kinds of automobile and motor sport activities so as to lift their sports standard.
Since its birth, SAMSA has already held a series of motor sports events, such as China Rally Championship (Shanghai), China Motor Road Championship (Shanghai), China Karting Championship (Shanghai), Shanghai Automobile And Motor Racing, Shanghai Motor Rally and Motocross. The year of 2004 is a milestone to SAMSA. With the completion of Shanghai International Circuit, SAMSA has successfully held China Circuit Championship (CCC), DTM, F1 Chinese Grand Prix, MOTOGP, V8 Super Cars Series, A1 Chinese Grand Prix, etc. obtaining great social benefit and increasing SAMSA’s popularity and influence as well. What’s more, it improves Shanghai's image as an international metropolitan city.
Currently, besides undertaking international and domestic sports events, SAMSA is in charge of holding such mass sports activities as automobile and motor racing, field race, etc. which will promote the development of automobile and motor sports in Shanghai.
